ParticipantHi All,
I am in the process of building a new kitchen extension and on the lookout for a new ceiling cooker hood over the island but I’m struggling to find one which has a suitable extraction rate as I have worked out I need a cooker hood with minimum extraction rate of at least 933 m3/h
My new extension measures 5.7mx5.5mx 2.5m (h),
My existing kitchen (galley kitchen) will also form part of the new kitchen, the size of this is 2.5mx2.3mx 2.6(h),When I add both of them together I get an extraction rate of 933m3/h
My gas cooker hob will be placed on an island in my new kitchen, would I get away with putting in a hood which has an extraction rate of 800 m3/h?
My kitchen designer has recommended a Falmec unit which has a 1000m3/h and costs around £1700 but after reading the reviews on Falmec I am not too keen.
Any recommendations of a suitable cooker hood would very much appreciated.
thanks

thanks for your recommendation 😎
I have been looking at Elica range of cooker hoods also and there are some I like, but the trust pilot reviews like Falmec are poor when it comes to aftersales service, Maybe I should just ignore them.
I really like the look of the Elica Hilight x-30 model, which also has a good extraction rate of 790m3/h,but slightly confused as it also
say’s “NO MOTOR: 230m3/h – 840m3/h”, am I right in assuming I need to purchase a separate motor to achieve the extraction rate of 840m3/h?https://www.elica.com/GB-en/hoods/ceiling/hilight-x
Thanks

KeymasterThere are a number of models where yes, an external motor unit is used and they are in many ways excellent as it allows a higher extraction rate as you can see but also removes virtually all the noise from the kitchen. The downside of course being the additional cost involved in that.
The huge upside to Elica as things are now (obviously I can’t predict years down the track) is spares etc are available easily, relatively well priced and tend to be available for many years. Regularly we will be providing parts for hoods that are 20+ years old.
