A service engineer was looking at my dishwasher yesterday. While it was out I was looking at the (wildly complicated) heat exchanger moulding and I noticed that one section of the inlet pipe was bright red. I couldn’t see why it was red and he didn’t know why. Can anyone tell me? I’ve looked at other pictures online and it seems to be common.
That red section of the heat exchanger is called the ‘free flow line’.
It’s an air gap in the water line that’s not only a legal requirement in Germany but also throughout Europe and even here in the UK. All water companies insist on it.
