    Hi All,

I have just successfully installed a new drum assembly in my Hoover washing machine (model no. H3W 68TME/1-80) but I’m struggling to fit the inner spring band/clip on the door seal. I believe this is actually possible with the drum in the machine but I can only think that special tooling is required. Please can someone tell me how to do this.

    Many thanks.

its not easy as the later ones use a spring

i use a small screw driver that fits in one end of the spring. place the wire round as far as it will go then you can stretch the spring with one hand and ease it into position with the other
really fiddly and you have to be careful you dont damage the rubber. you could use strong string in a loop and pull that

after its on i use a mirror to check its in the groove of the rubber

Thank you Dave. I had pretty much come to the same conclusion myself.

No doubt the manufacturing production lines are fully equipped with tooling to make it quick and easy but it’s a shame they couldn’t stick to “old circlip technology” for ease of repair!

    Thank you once again.

they did it because overtightening of clamps was damaging the thin shoddy drums

I would try a little fairy liquid on the spring and wire it’s self it does help, failing that they do sell a big jubilee clip type band instead of the one you have

the reason my method works is because of the friction between the rubber and the band. you are stretching the spring and if fairy was there the band would just slip. failry wont work in this case as the spring has to be streched quite a lot to get it on

or you have to buy something like this

Firstly, thank you all for your comments. I have managed to get both sorted now although counter intuitively I found the inner one was much easier than the outer!

Thank you also for the youtube link Dave, I’d buy one of those in an instant if I had to do this regularly!

One final question, I stupidly did not make a note of the correct orientation of the seal itself. I fitted it with the little drainage hole in the bottom 6 o’clock position but I am curious about the little spout that sticks out of the left side of the seal (slightly below the 9 o’clock position) that goes nowhere and doesn’t attach to anything. It looks like water could escape from it and cause a puddle down by the drain pump. Can you tell me what its for please and confirm that I have in fact got the seal correctly orientated?

    Many thanks.

some machines pump water in through a hole in the rubber

it should be blanked if your machine is not fitted with this facility

there are 2 different gaskets fitted to this range of machine depending on serial number and commercial code

let me have the complete number off the label

    number starts 3101

lets check if the part you have is correct

Ok, so the serial number is 3101071221170721. This seal is the original fitted from new.

the correct seal is part no 41050135

is that what you have bought

No, I did not buy this part. It is the original seal fitted when I bought the machine two and a half years ago. The only new part that I have bought is the drum assembly.

ok that should be fine then

is the spout at 9 o’clock blanked out i.e. there is rubber in the way stopping water getting out ?

No, the spout has never been blanked out which is why I’m questioning the orientation.

If I were to rotate the whole seal clockwise by 30o I’d be less concerned however, the drain hole would then no longer be in the 6 o’clock position and there would be a permanent puddle in the bottom of the seal. If the spout is actually redundant and a plug does exist then I’d prefer to fit one rather than rotate the seal. Alternatively I suppose I could just make one.

well normally there is a hose going to it

are you sure you have not missed a hose off ?

Absolutely 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} positive nothing is missing or has been missed. There was nothing connected to it when I took it out and I have no parts left over after rebuilding the machine. Everything has been accounted for.

Many thanks for your help and patience Dave, it has been very much appreciated!
