ModeratorDo you often find that even though your relatives know that you have many years of experience with white goods and the general incompetance of kitchen fitters, they still plough ahead with major expenditure without bothering to ask you.
My sister in law has just had a new fitted kitchen. I only found out it was being done when it was three parts finished. I saw it for the first time last night. On the surface the units look reasonable, but don’t they always in most cases. I looked under the sink and found a hotch potch of that horrible plastic plumbing that these bodgers use all the time now, you need three hands to try and unscrew or refit a hose connection. Also the drain hose to the dishwasher had been extended by approx 2 metres round the back of the units. Which brings me to my next gripe. The dishwasher and the new F/freezer are both TEKA appliances, the range cooker is a gas CDA job. Who actually makes these appliances ? The cooker looks reasonable but the dishwasher and F/F look awful. The decor panel has been so badly fitted on the F/F that the seal does not mate correctly, unlike a good freezer door seal, which has some resistance on first opening and is very difficult to open just after you have closed it, this one comes open at the slightest touch, the fronts of the drawers are dripping with condensation and a large patch of ice is already forming at the top of the cabinet. 😥
The real problem is, if I say anything then I am labelled as being an awkward, sarcastic, know it all.

I should have thought you’d be used to that by now, it’s our lot in life. I really must ensure you get the memons. 😉 😆
Teka, could be anything. Literally. DW’s, they’ve been using the Chinese contingent recently for the low cost stuff. 🙁
FF, no idea but I’d expect a “budget” job.
CDA cooker, got a model number and I’ll see if I can find out?

I will have a furtive look the next time I call. I could see model numbers on the D/W & F/F but nothing at all on the cooker.

Slightly off topic but a mate of mine rang me up recently and had me look at a Diplomat integ washer dryer (Servis). Only a minor repair but after two years totally peed off with it and asked me to sort him out with a graded appliance (sadly no ISE 😥 ). A kitchen company had ‘aquired this good quality washer dryer at a good price for him’ of …………£800) :eeek:

Indeed! 👿
“Errrr… Trugie, I’ve just bought a blah blah blah, and it not working right! Maybe I installed it wrong?”
“WTF is this! Why didn’t you talk to me about getting a blah blah blah?”
“Well, we had some gift vouchers for arg*s, and the missus wanted one with pink trim…”

This fitted kitchen company http://www.space-kitchens.co.uk are now trying to sell a kitchen to another relative, their brochure waffles on about TEKA, a German owned company, and Kuppersbusch are stated as being ‘German engineered’ . Is any of this stuff actually made in in Germany or is it all Chinese and Italian tat. ❓ Cannot believe they are offering 2 year warranties on these appliances, who does the service on them?
The plumbing they did for the sister in law is awful, loads of loose. floppy, quick fit plastic piping, the sort that you need three hands to unscrew or refit a fill hose to. 😥 Dishwasher outlet hose extended and looped under the units with a 2.5 metre length of hose lying in the cupboard.

Teka Single oven OS0474SSmodel numbers not recognised Jim 😕
Ovens are usually in the format HM595 or HI75 or similar
Dishwashers are DW655FI or TDW602 and so on.
I’ve not seen numbers like yours before: they’re not Kuppersbusch model numbers either

Strange, lifted directly from the brochure from this kitchen firm. I have persuaded them to get a local firm I know to give them an estimate. They work closely with Star Supplies, who will, I’m sure be able to source Neff or similar for the about the same price as they are aking for this TEKA stuff.

We see a lot of Space Kitchens stuff and haven’t come across those model numbers before – have a look at the machines just in case they’ve made up some numbers for their brochure Jim, as it might be some internal reference they’ve got on there
