At the moment we have a Bosch washing machine just 2 years old and was thinking about replacing it with a Hotpoint Ultima WMD940.
The reason is because we now need a bigger drum size and can get this model for £220.
I would like to know if anyone has experienced the reliability and most importantly are parts readily available should anything go wrong.
The other brand we was looking at was Hoover but have heard some horror stories about drums exploding on their 8kg models.
I have had older Hotpoint machines in the past and they have been good and the mother in law has one now 11 years old and all she has ever done is change the motor brushes.

Don’t waste your money on this poor quality Indesit built machine. In fact unless you are thinking of buying a Miele don’t buy a washer/dryer full stop.
It will have a sealed drum and very dodgy electronics.
The Indesit drums have also been ‘exploding’ in considerable numbers in the past year or so as well.Keep the Bosch and buy yourself a separate dryer.
Why do you think you need a bigger drum?

WMD940 is / was a washing machine Jim 😉 now replaced by the WMD942.
I would definately keep the Bosch.
For best results and reliability I would add either a White Knight or a Zanussi vented dryer

Thanks for the advice, The reason for needing a bigger drum is because as the kids are growing up the washing is getting harder to keep on top of. I thought hotpoint were as good brand but looks like lots of brands are merging with others

Did not realise that the hotpoint had a sealed drum which will mean when the bearings go you have to bin the machine – Not good then.

It’s not just bearings failing that can cause an issue, something trapped in it can as well.
It’s been a hot topic for a while in the industry, more on the subject in this article.

My Bosch machine is WAA24169GB does this model have the dreaded sealed drum?

I’d need the ENR number from the rating plate to be absolutely sure but, so far as I can see, yes it’s a complete inner tank only.

I thought that you could replace bearings in this if ever they failed, It gets used everyday. Will have to get back to you with the ENR number as its doing a wash as I type this :rolls:
Never quite understood why the Bosch logo is black on this model where other Bosch machines have the red logo.

If I replaced this with Bosch model WFO2467GB would this have the drum that can be separated.
I only worried as the last 2 machines have only lasted 4 years when the bearings gave out and had to bin the machine because of the dreaded sealed drum.
Thats why I went with our current Bosch (WAA24169GB) as i thought these were more serviceable.

I think its because I was looking at a hotpoint and you good guys advised that they are not as good as they once were.
I think its because Bosch are known for their reliability – These sealed drums should be banned.
Do Miele use sealed drums? would be nice to get something teats easily serviced/repaired if something goes wrong rather than the attitude of when it breaks just throw it away.

Bosch are okay but I don’t know that these days they’re all that much above most of the rest in the mid-market, some yes they probably are but like most they’ve had to compromise to hit the price points.
No, Miele are one of the few that don’t to my knowledge and I don’t think wouldn’t do something like that but even they’ve had comments that the lower range machines aren’t as good as they were.
