ParticipantHello,
I’m in the market for a new washer dryer and would appreciate some advice.
I have a budget of around £500 and would like a reliable machine – i’m not bothered about gimmicks!
The machine would wash for 2 adults and 2 young children, and would be used for approx 7 washes per week.
Unfortunatly it has to be a washer dryer due to space. We would be using the dryer less often than the washer – mainly using the dryer function for baby clothes and towels.
My wife and Daughter both have Ezcema. The floor is tiles over solid concrete.
Please could you advise me as to what is the most reliable / best quality machine for my money.
So far I’ve been thinking of AEG, Siemens, Bosch and Smeg, but I’m not sure if the cheaper products made by these manufacturers are better than the equally priced hotpoint etc?Ben

Two adults & two children…you really should avoid a washer dryer at all costs.
Unfortunately a few of the links on that page are now dead but the one to Miele is the only one worth having anyway.
As Hotpoint machines are virtually all Indesit now then a quick ‘search’ around this forum for Indesit should tell you all you need to know when comparing them with Neff,Bosch, Siemens etc.
The AEG is a Zannusi and its very likely that the Bosch etc may be a Smeg.
Can you find room anywhere for a small, compact dryer ?

ParticipantWhite knight dryer?
Thanks for the advice. Didn’t know compact dryers existed, but the good news is I do have space for one 🙂 . This would be a temoprary measure as we plan on moving next year so hopefully will have space for full size units.
Are the white knight compact dryers (model 372WV) for £99 any good? Should I pay the £10 extra for the model with reverse function (382wv)? Do I have to vent to the outside? Or is it ok to use one of the condensing boxes? (I dont really want to pay £270 for the zanusi condensing compact dryer).Ben

White Knight is OK for the price, reversing is a must if you don’t want your washing tied in a ball.
Advisable to vent outside, as the dryers are small and easily portable the vent hose can often be hung out of a window or similar. The condensing boxes are as much use as a chocolate fire guard, IMHO of course. 😉

Some of the new dryers use the “butterfly” action, like the ISE10 one, to stop that from happening so you only need one direction. Better IMO as it’s more reliable, less to break. 😉
Mind you, you’re reliant on decent design for that.
