    I was doing a thing, that I decided to split into chunks, as it’s not then a bloomin’ novel, and never thought to ask in here if anyone had a better recollection that I have of that time (I was young then :)) in this article:

    One slightly unrelated topic struck me this afternoon. I was driving between local towns that constituted my ‘area’ for well over 45 years. It was quite normal then to take and often complete between 8 and 10 calls every day. The state of the traffic at all hours of the day currently would make that totally impossible.:(

    I bet that £810 wasn’t a month. 😉

    And yeah, traffic these days is a nightmare. Oh so often I think it’s a 20 minute journey and that’s more than optimistic once you get out there and school times… jeez.

    started work 1970 as an apprentice at £5 2s 6d a week. the next year it went up to £8 something
