This subject may have come up before but I havn’t seen it. I know some companies frown upon plugs being cut off of appliances, say to put throught a worktop. Is this just a cost cutting exercise or is there a legal reason for this? Can this affect warranties?

    Re: Removing appliance plugs.

Does not affect our warranties, so long as it is fitted correctly and to spec!
I once went to a very large city centre apartment tower, to look at a fault on a Neff dishwasher. It was the first apartment to be occupied and the knob in the shiniest hard hat was not happy that the “#@”{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}*&” dishwasher “died” on first use.
I found that the installer had cut off the moulded plug to pass the cable through a small hole into the cupboard.
He fitted a new plug with a 3 amp fuse!!!
He had also fitted every other dishwasher in the tower block with the same plug/fuse.
I left, feeling not a little bit smug.

If I have to install a machine where the cable has to pass through a small hole I remove the cable at the machine end rather than cutting off the plug.

    @ phidom

some new machines Hotpoint i think use a cable with a moulded plug on one end and a moulded supressor on the other i tend to make a short extension lead and plug machine into this that way if i have to repair the appliance i can move it around without problem. Best way is to carry a trailing socket and when removing old machine cut the lead at the machine end and install socket
