    Thanks Martin. The hinge has already been removed, so the question is, when you say “short out the lid microswitch”, which part in the diagram is that?

    The regulations are quite clear about this situation, you cannot remove the lid and then connect a cooker/hob to the gas supply. If you do so then it will be picked up at the next annual inspection, the appliance will be classed as immediately dangerous and the gas operative will need to inform the HSE.

    Your choices here are to either move the wall units so that the lid can be raised to it’s open position with the minimum clearances as stated in the user manual or replace the cooker with one that has no lid.

    That .pdf file spells it out and a responsible landlord would never attempt messing with that hinged lid otherwise, as johnmac11 says, the annual inspection will pick it up.

    I looked up many other brands of slot in gas cookers and all feature the glass top. Many have similar height/size specs. So, time to modify that cupboard is the best most effective solution.
