Bought this Electrolux machine from Ikea 5 years ago , we had to have it’s whole drum assembly replaced within 2 years and now 3 years later it’s gone again 🙁 1 month out of warranty we just discovered. I can’t replace the bearing as it’s a sealed unit, I can remember the poor engineer when he came had a huge job replacing the thing.
My question is, is this machine a goner? (I think I know the answer)
It’s making a horrid spin noise so I presume it’s the bearing again , I don’t want to risk it grinding into a fire or anything so we’ve stopped using it but 2 days after replacing out dishwasher this is a right royal pain..
My next question having read UK White goods info page on the poor state of machine bearings only lasting a few years, what machine should we get?

We got an ikea because it’s integrated and thought a 5 years guarantee was good obviously not if they only last a few years!
Appreciate any help or advice, I need to get another machine, not sure it’s worth going back to Ikea again!

    Hi

Dealing with your old one first, bearing failure twice in five years?

    Have you been overloading it?

How many loads a week are you doing?

Thanks for the quick reply Don,
after the last engineer told us how vulnerable the machine was and gave us a some good advice on how to look after it, we have been very careful not to overload it, we also run a service wash once a month with the occasional Calgon tablet, regularly clean the filter and leave the door open to stop any bacteria.

He replaced the Tub assembly, heating element, pully kit, and new rubber. My wife’s shocked it’s lasted so little. It’s operates quite smoothly but the noise is increasing on the spin, so I presume this is bearing again.

After reading through the forums and the UKWG notice on sealed drums it’s either spend cash on a Meile or save and chance a Beko, as our dishwasher just went I think we may get a 2 year guaranteed Beko..
    Appreciate the advice

Oh gosh sorry mean to say that and forgot in my rambling text, we do about 1 every day, I’d say an average of 5 per week, weirdly just tried the machine again and it worked fine! no noise from the spin. Checked filter and found a small piece of plastic, looks like part of the filter but that I don’t think it could have made the noise we heard for the past week. Am testing another wash.
Sorry I hope I haven’t wasted time with this post, I’ve been researching new washing machines for the past 2 hours too!

Your piece of plastic could well be the problem, it was hitting the impellor when the pump was running causing the noise.

If you disconnect the belt and then turn the drum by hand if there is no rumbling then the bearings are probably okay.

If you are going down the replacement route average use is approx three loads per week so you are almost double that. I would be tempted to replace with a Miele freestanding machine ( remove the old one and cut through plinth leaving a void for a freestanding machine). Only issue here is you will lose the built in look. Miele built in washing machines are available but for a much higher price.

Fingers crossed your Lux is okay for more washes to come 😉

    HTH 🙂
