ParticipantI’m currently in a quandry as to whether i sell my business to another engineer and then take on employment with him. My work is mainly private work but the majority of his is Repaicare and insurance work which keep him more than busy.
My query is whether in the current climate Repaircare and insurance work in general is steady, because even though I’m struggling workwise I don’t want to sell, Insurance work drop and then I’m out on my ear and in the poo having sold my business. 😕TC

Have you considered supplementing your cash work with warranty, insurance and manufacturer work.
I do a mix of them all and it seems to work .
Even if you went on board with them as a second tier agent and built up from there
just a thoughtLawrence

Regarding the employed side I’m being offered 15 days holiday plus £18k per year. After being self employed for 10 years I’m pretty out of touch with engineers salaries. I cover home laundry, dishwashers and electric cooking and will be doing a fair bit of admin as well so is £18k reasonable?

TCMy god you are out of touch, or should I say your prospective employer is! I don’t know how the cost of living index works where you are, but I would not dream of offering such a small figure, and then 15 days holiday. Add to that this is a fairly laid back part of the world. Your’e better off carrying on and supplementing your income in B&Q or a Garden Centre a couple of days a week.
Min wage for my guys with your skill sets happens to be around £24k. The top earner this fiscal year should gross £26k with bonuses. Add to that they get 5 weeks (25-days) holiday plus a pension scheme and sick pay. Next time there is a wage review I ought to print out your posting.
