Downright scandalous that they can advertise it as “If we can’t fix it, we’ll replace it, or your money back”, when actually it’s “If we can’t fix it we’ll charge you £45 and give you back the difference”.
I guess they’re never going to follow through on their promise to replace it when they can pocket £45 for doing nothing.

I agree. Perhaps this is where the WTA could use their weight and, using freedom of information, ask for proof that machines have been replaced. Or even speak to some advertising body??
This sort of advertising can really hurt us independents.WTA what do you reckon?

There’s no denying that fixed price repair ‘organisations’ are having a greater effect these days. I’m sure many of you have had potential customer enquiries asking if your company does fixed price repairs too. On the face of it and from the customers point of view it’s not a bad deal, sounds good, the T & C’s are clear and well set out, what could possibly go wrong?
With indie costs and labour charges going up all the while repairs around the £100 are fairly commonplace. So shelling a maximum of £135 (incl VAT) isn’t too high a price for the uninitiated to comprehend. If it can’t be done just punting £45 isn’t too bad a risk in this day and age.
Please don’t assume I’m condoning the practice, not at all, just looking at it from another angle that’s all. If it were a con, scam, rip-off or whatever then there would be a plethora of complaints flying in all directions. The only ones I know of is where one national company (based in Brum) sends blokes to fix appliances that don’t have a clue. I benefit from their ignorance and so cannot complain. Fortunately for me at least Repair Easy don’t cover my patch. 😀

I have had a couple come through from SES in Studley. Looks like they are mostly repairing makes with their own engineers, except in areas of less population.Decent pay rates.

From FAQ page:
“Why should I trust you? We’ve been fixing faults since 1997 and we’ve fixed millions of them. But if you use a non-approved repairer your equipment could easily be written off when the appliance could work for many years longer. Non -approved repairers don’t always have the tools, parts or expertise to repair your appliance.“
That’s what really gets my goat. They are playing on customers’ fears of getting ripped off elsewhere, and in the process slandering their opposition. That is DIRTY TRICKS. Nothing less. 👿
I don’t think their strategy will work on educated customers, but the vulnerable .. that’s another story.

Define “approved” or “qualified”.
It’s smoke and mirrors deliberately designed to instil fear. It’s a marketing and media trick that’s effective, that’s why it’s popular.

Indeed, just like spam. They spend massively on advertising and then take the relatively few who are fooled for a ride.

Yup.
You can combat it but, it takes cash to do it or, a whole lotta effort and time. And, irrespective, there would have to be a concerted effort.

Cash and time which none of us have. (Apologies to WTA.) So I guess we just have to learn to live with it. Fortunately, there are plenty of customers out there who can still read. And still more who are not prepared to shell out £135 / £165 full stop! We moan about them but they are our saviours in some ways.
