I have a AEG Oko-Lavamat washer dryer that I have owned for 11 years, last weekend it started oozing smoke and stopped working.

A lot of comment s I have read suggest it might be the drum bearings, but I not knowledgeable enough about these things to say if that is the case or not.

Now I have the choice of repairing or replacing. The problem with repairing is that I would have to pay a call out charge get someone in, they assess the problem and make a judegment on wether it is worth repairing.

I wondering if this is worth paying or just biting the bullet and buying a new machine

A new washer dryer of comparable quality would cost several hundred pounds more than most repair jobs you might need on the AEG so I would recommend you get someone to look at it. If you buy a new AEG machine it will probably be of inferior quality to your current model.

    Hi Phidom

    Thanks for the reply.

Out of curiousity do you know what is the normal lifespan for a Washing machine.

Is a 10 year old machine generally considered to be at the middle or end of its expected life span?

With average use of say one wash a day I would expect a German made AEG to last at least 20 years. If you bought a new Indesit today you would be lucky to get more than 5 years.
