ParticipantGoing to look at a Neff hob thing which has an unusually shaped oblong ceramic element. (Looks like it might be like the DeLonghi part illustrated under part no. 5031684078578 on Connect.)
The customer rang Neff and they told him the element was obsolete and that a new equivalent hob would be £400+. This is some kind of single plate unit he has built into the work surface next to his Rayburn. It’s about twenty years old. He gave me model as N1120W0GB/00.
I looked it up on e-shop and found that although that particular model was obsolete there were close models with same looking part (differing by one digit in part no.) which are available for about £82.
Anyway, I’m going to go and have a dekko first because one never knows if it is the element that’s at fault.
However, meanwhile, my mind began working on a little idea involving transferring the heating coil from a cheap Electruepart unit into the old ceramic bed. Apparently it’s only the circular section that’s not working.
Has anyone here ever attempted anything like this and can either confirm that it’s possible or save me the bother?

The cheap ceramic elements are of the “crinkle chip cutter” design and not remotely similar.
Have a look at this on Connect, Mike – (5031681354552); it might be just what you need. 😉HTH,
Steve.

Could well be that. Am in wonderment at your ability to find stuff. Will be going to look this afternoon. If I can get it for £82 retail from Neff, it once again shows up Connect’s pricing, but could yet be different part. (SRP £166.86.) Will post when solved.
Mike.
Edit:- Looks like it’s 356339, out of stock at Connect and no picture. but only a few quid more expensive trade than the Neff retail 😆 .May 28, 2010 at 11:48 am #321160leavemetogetonwithit

Well, it was the element so have ordered it from Bosch. Trade was only seventy something incl. VAT and delivery and paying by card, no need for proof of trade status. 😀
Just one more question. Will ordinary draught proofing stuff do the same job as the “sealing strip” which has all rotted like foam does?
