Repairing a minute tear in a hotpoint washing m/c door seal

Is there any way I could effect a repair to the door seal in a Hotpoint WM76 washing machine which has a minute pin hole in it.

I am not prepared to go to the bother of trying to fit a new seal myself, or call in an engineer due to the age of the machine (7 years)

I was thinking along the lines of some sort of sealant or even trying a bicycle puncture repair outfit, but any suggestions would be extremely welcome.

Door seal is not rubber, it’s epdm, repair patch will stay in place for about 5 minutes.

Yes you are right. The patch wouldn’t stick at the edges, so it will fall off as soon as it comes in contact with water.

How much would it cost me to call an engineer out?

I tried your “contact an engineer in your area” and it gave me an address over 15 miles away from where I live

That’s the door seal, an independent engineer will charge for an hours work. Rates vary widely across the country, you should discuss this when you make contact.

Does your local Council have a Fair Trader scheme? You can find fairly safe tradespeople through that.

Hi Matahari,
I should point out to you (in case you haven’t realised) that this site is run by the independent engineers. We operate our own repair network for everyone to use, and the UKW engineers who choose to be in the system are signed up to a Charter detailing standards of behaviour and expected levels of service. There is an independent Council to sort out any disputes if they arise.

Our OP should click the repairs@ link to find a repairer in his area.

There are three names given of accredited engineers and not one of them gives an address.

Can I ask more than one of them for an estimate?

I must say, when regularly on the tools (as an employee) I used to carry a tyre repair kit as a patch coupled with an artily worked smear of silicone worked great for a temporary repair.

Must have been different material back then!
