I’ve got an old, but perfectly functional, Bosch dishwasher (sgv43a03gb, but this is a more general question.)

The top and bottom baskets both have small rusty patches — three or four small (5mm or so) places where the plastic coating has failed and the metal below is visible and rusting.

I’ve tried rust-killer then a couple of coats of Hammerite to fix it, but that only lasted a few months. Before I give it another go (and prepare it properly this time — grind back to bare metal, rust killer), is there anything recommended that’s going to be harder wearing than Hammerite as a top-coat?

    TIA!

It could be a fruitless task, even if you achieve a good seal against the metal you will not be able to get a good seal on the remaining plastic and the heat and the detergent will soon get into it again. 😥

    That’s what I feared – it’s a pretty harsh environment in there.

Oh well — time to look at prices for new baskets. Trouble is it’s probably more sense to just get a new dishwasher than pay £150 for new bits 🙁
