I have built-in Hotpoint BU72P oven.
Since new, every time the oven switches on, the lamp cover shatters.
The lamp cover screws into the rear oven liner and I assume the latter expands, when the oven heats up, compressing and shattering the lamp cover, leaving the bulb exposed.
Hotpoint are typically gormless about this.
Does anybody have any suggestions, please?
Re: Repeated breakages of Hotpoint oven lamp cover
Thank you.
I wonder if there’s a fault with the thread in the rear liner, because I would have thought that it would be designed to leave space for expansion, without pinching the lamp cover.
Might be fun persuading Hotpoint to conduct a warranty rear liner replacement however?!
Re: Repeated breakages of Hotpoint oven lamp cover
IIRC some lamp covers have a soft alloy washer underneath them which would obviously protect it from heat expansion.
What’s the model number of your oven?…..I’m sure someone here with the correct manufacturers technical info 😉 will be able to tell you whether a washer is required…
Re: Repeated breakages of Hotpoint oven lamp cover
Forgot to add…..when you fit a lamp cover, never tighten it all the way….just ‘nip’ it up, then the worst that could happen is it will loosen and rattle slightly in which case it can be retightened.
