Repeated door seals damaged on Candy DQ120

Just looked at an 18 month old 1200 spin Candy DQ120 where the door seal is totally ripped. It’s ripped about a foot wide near the drum lip end.

The customer says they’ve replaced 2 seals under guarantee already!

I can’t see anything wrong with the suspension physically, but the drum appears to lean back a bit. It apparently hits the back panel a lot on spin. Has anyone had suspension faults on tese machines and could it account for the door seals tearing?

just a quick thought on the candy DQ120, check the top springs are in the front location holes, as there are two positions on that machine,

There are two very strong springs fitted, but only on the sides. With this type of suspension I can’t see it twisting and allowing leaning like the old rubber based suspension. The tub leans back about half, to three quarters of an inch which allows it to knock against the back panel.

I would suspect the drum spigot is broken. To check rotate the drum and if it appears slightly bucked or offcentre, it will be the problem. Also stick a couple of wet bathtowels in and see it ramp up to full speed. If it starts knocking the spigot is busted for sure.

The first thing I checked for was a broken spider but it all seemed quite firm. No play at all.

I would have put money on it being a broken spigot too?

That wouldn’t cause a rip in the bottom of the door seal though would it? There’s no damage to the part of the door seal near the drum lip.

Could it be customer misuse? Becasue it sure sounds it to me, teenage daughter with those damn studs in them that may be too sharp is a favourite. Or simple overloading with the wrong stuff in it forcing too much against the seal.

IME Candy door seals are pretty damned good and do not tend to tear until they are a few years old. Just a thought.

Repeated door seals damaged on Candy DQ120….. It isn’t just this machine, as we sell a few parts I have seen many a customer bring their old door seal in ripped to bits as Andy describes. It appears to be across the later Candy and Hoover range.

Perhaps someone knows a GIAS engineer who may have the answer, sure as hell they won’t tell their customers if they have a known problem 😉

Tjhe customer decided to chance it as I couldn’t guarantee it wouldn’t reocurr. I asked her to let me know if it did.

I got caught with one of these a few years back. If its got those horrible ‘rectangular’ crimped together suspa legs, check that the friction block is still in the leg. Excessive movement (ie spinninig with a partial blockage) can cause the friction pad to drop out and it’s completely impossible to refit. The worst bit is that the damper looks completely unscathed, but just doesn’t work, as you still get minor resistance from the way the thing is assembled ……..
