I’ve got one of these, the belt has snapped – doesn’t look too badly frayed, but I’ve never been inside one of these things before.
I’ve searched the forum for “Hotpoint AND dryer AND belt” and got 50 results, some of which were about replacing the belt on hotpoints. Sounds like I might be in for a battle, but can anyone advise if I should check anything else while I’m in there. I haven’t had a good look yet, but I couldn’t really see where the motor brushes are – is it worth the hassle to check them out – the machine is used quite heavily.
I would definitely check the motor brushes, if you find any please let me know, 😉
Seriously, its an induction motor, it does not have any brushes. 🙂
Belt change on these or on most modern tumble dryers for that matter is not a simple DIY fix. If it has been heavily used then the two jockey pulleys may be worn and could even have contributed to the belt failure.
This is a horrible job – lid, both side panels off, condenser cover off, front fan off and let the front panel fall forward to get the belt round the drum and motor shaft before the fun of getting everything to line up again.
Save it for Sunday and get an extra air of hands to help.
