ParticipantMy clothes are sometimes suffering staining which seems to come from deposits on the door seal that I cannot remove. What is causing this? What can I do about it?
Assuming that after several years of use I now need a new door seal, is this something I can change myself (I have quite good DIY skills) or should I call in a specialist? I know I can purchase the replacement part from whitegoods.

Hi KMD
This happens a lot nowadays due to the low wash temperatures used. There are some good articles to be found in our advice and help section
If the problem is serious then perhaps replace the door seal. To keep the new one clean Click here to purchase Affresh washing machine cleaner which will help keep your machine in tip top condition.
As for the fitting of a new seal click the ” find an engineer ” link in your post, it could save you pounds and hassle in the long run 😉

ParticipantDon, many thanks for your comments.
Will also check other articles on the subject.
Will try using Affresh before deciding if problem serious enough to warrant changing seal.
I think I will opt for engineer to change seal if required.

In desperation, you could use neat bleach on the rubber, making sure you open the folds back in order to kill the “hidden” mould. (rubber gloves and a saturated dish-cloth work well ! )
you should then rinse the rubber well and probably do a hot, whites wash as your first, following bleaching.
You can also get a “bathroom black mould ” cleaning spray at supermarkets.
Another well known old-fashioned remedy is WHITE VINEGAR (same method as bleaching, but kinder to the rubber and ,of course, needs an empty wash to eliminate the smell of vinegar afterwards.
Once it’s clean, the affresh should keep it that way.
