replaced drain pump – shield wont fit onto new pump

Hi

Recently had an issue with samsung q1435 washing machine where the drain pump failed.

I have replaced the faulty pump with a pump from this website and that has worked ok but there is a plastic part which surrounded the previous faulty pump and does not fit onto the new pump.

As this white plastic part does not fit onto the new pump, i have left it out of the machine. What is it for and is the machine safe without it?
The washing machine works and drains ok

Looks like an optional part the doesn’t look to do much in that model but it is hard to make out. Probably not required though.
