ParticipantAfter a fair few years service, our dishwasher blew the RCD this morning. A bit of searching and cleaning later it popped properly and emitted magic smoke.
Not wanting to progress any further with his as it is old and any major bit of it will cost too much, so we are looking for a new full size freestanding dishwasher.Only for two of us now the kids have left home but want to stay full size and under £450 ideally.
Dn’t need any fancy frills, just a reliable machine that cleans well and is efficient.Need it reltaively quickly and I’ll be installing myself.
Looking towards another Bosch, lower end Smeg or AEG.
Any specific models or advice that can be offered would be appreciated.June 1, 2019 at 10:46 am #461790twonks
ParticipantSorry, can’t seem to find an edit button. Was looking at the brands above but happy to take advice and reccomendations for others. 🙂

Moderatorbosch are not as good these days especially bottom end as they use a plastic base inside the wash area. AEG is Zanussi in disguise. Smeg is not too bad but top of the tree are Miele
if you going bosch pick one further up the range with a full stainless inner, that includes Neff which is the same unit under a different brand
you could look at Beko. budget machine yes but 2 year guarantee on integrated units. although you get 2 years on Bosch and Neff I think Aeg is still 12 months but not sure

ParticipantHi Dave. Thanks for the quick reply. Is the plastic base, literally the inside of the machine base being plastic – so easy to spot when looking?
I’m tempted by the Beko Pro DEN48X20X. Relatively expensive for a lower end brand but the specs and performance look great.
Other than that, still looking.

Moderatoreasy to spot bosch, open door, look in bottom where filter is, if its all silver bril if it grey plastic its the cheap model
we get a few problems with the seal between the plastic and stainless leaking which means its scrap. If its all stainless it can leak as there is no joint

Or you could just look at series 4 and up 😉

KeymasterI’d go for the Smeg, less complex and don’t use those stupid heat pumps (yet) that keep breaking on the Bosch Group ones.

ParticipantI gave up doing all Bosch dishwashers as a blanket ban approach and that lost me 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my business but it was worth it dropping them. Loads of repeat problems generally a poor design, difficult to repair, basically a pain in the ars*. The plastic base ones do warp whereas the all stainless steel ones do not and that is true. What no one says, though and I will point it out, that it doesn`t change that the heatpump ( which is a heater and wash motor as one unit ) fails on a regular basis either way and my last pump change the new pump lasted under 3minutes!! That was the final straw. Loads of other common problems occur too. Basically Bosch, Neff, Siemens dishwashers are poor over hyped quality contraptions in my view.
Smeg and Miele neither of which I have very much past experience of so I cannot make any comment on other than they have expensive spares should it all go tits up but I do work on the occassional Pro Action dishwasher which are currently @ £139.99 full size free standing do not seem to be that bad; look good; to date it has been mostly jammed pumps due to glass. Put it this way, I would sooner have a Pro Action rather than a Bosch, Indesit, Hotpoint, Zannusi, AEG, Electrolux. Pro Action are cheap to buy easy to work on ( so far ) but with the disadvantage of expensive spares and some programmes take ages so check that one out.Beko dishwashers are slightly better than Pro Action with the benefit of more reasonable / cheaper priced spares but I mostly deal with the entry level machines which I like working on and so that`s nothing posh.
I should say that I do not have a dishwasher myself there being only 2 of us too. The last dishwasher I did have was an Indesit LS12 from the 1970`s that was a great dishwasher and lasted until 1990 something or other but that was then and not of a 2019 build standard which are set low.. -
