ParticipantLooking to replace our 14 year old Hotpint f/f. Have looked around and because the old appliance isn’t large enough we have decided to go for separates. We have decided on Bosch models KSR34V61GB and GSN28V62GB based on size and brand reliability. We had considered two identical fridge/freezers but didn’t fancy having extra doors but did like the idea of two identical products if one fails allowing backup for fridge or freezer. At over £1000 the pair these aren’t cheap and wondered if perhaps we would regret spending such a large amount on seperates. We haven’t the depth for an American style. Any views?

Hi freezepop
I would rather spend £1000 on two seperate machines than an American side by side for the same price. To get the same sort of quality and 2 year warranty you would probably need to be around the £1500 mark for a Maytag or an admiral machine. You can achieve the “American” look by reversing the door hinge on one of the units if you so wish, and in the silver they will look good as well.

Thanks for your input Don. We were almost seduced by a £500 Samsung American style in Currys (think it was end of line display model) until we realised it was too deep and then I did some research on Samsung for spares and reliability. So I take your point regarding spending £1500 on a single machine.

Research, research and more research 😆 pays off in the end 😉 This article on what`s in a name is an eye opener.

Indeed it is an eye opener. It also makes it difficult to find out where an appliance or the parts are manufactured. I had an idea that some Bosch were made in Spain which leaves me with a slight dilema. Still feel I would probably be better off with Bosch made in Spain than a Hotpoint made anywhere. As you say research ……. .

Hi
Bosch like a lot of manufacturers out there nowadays do produce in other countries, but the products are made in their own factories so everything is controlled in the same way it would be in their native country. I have not had any Bosch refrigeration build issues at all in the last few years. The only range of theirs I don`t really like is the WAA range of washing machines as they are a little too cheap.

Ya wouldn’t go far wrong with a Miele FF F/F.
Excellent Quality, and worth every penny in my opinion.

Well I have decided and the Bosch separates it is. Had considered Liebherr and Miele but they didn’t quite have the desired spec.
Thanks for your views.
