ParticipantThis is the second dishwasher I have come across in one week with slug shorting the circuits.
The Hotpoint dishwasher is rather new (restricted parts me thinks) and I am on the hunt for replacement module as the one showed up on Connections is the wrong style (white cover). The one I am looking for a complete programmed module and the cover is copper in colour and has a “door” cover for the heater plug.

ParticipantMain chip blown. So it’s not possible for EMW to fix it as I often get this returned for the very reason of chip blown.

ParticipantAre you suggesting that I buy blank module and send it off to EMW to program it?

Moderatoryes have done that before
give them a ring am sure they can do it

ParticipantI have sent off the module to EMW to have it programmed after the telephone call I made to them. Now they returned the module with the note to say “Sorry unable to program this one as software needs updating”. Am I missing something here?
Do you know anyone else who can program the module?

Moderatorwhos software ? must be theirs as it cant be the board
cant answer that one, does not make sense, maybe give them a ring and ask. If it is their software they will have to update it soon otherwise they cant programme any new units

ParticipantTo be honest that I am rather annoyed that they returned the module to say software needs updating whereas it is in their power to update their system. They can’t just dump it on to me leaving me high and dry. They need to act fast as like you said they can’t program new units.
There is a Hotpoint engineer around the corner from my house, maybe I can knock on his door and bribe him?

ModeratorTo be honest I have not used them for years but they are a resource. The reason I stopped using them was when I sent in a module and got the wrong one back in return. The one they returned had none of the usual markings on it but was a similar board so I fitted it. when it did not work I contacted them only to be effectively told I was lying and they never made mistakes. How arrogant is that

ParticipantThe only official way to get the settings software is by purchasing a smartcard.
Firms who repair modules usually build their own library of settings files by making a copy of the settings file from modules they have repaired.
In cases where they have not had previous access to a readable board for a particular model they would need to purchase the settings smartcard. Or use a friendly Whirlpool engineer who is willing to risk his/her job.

Participanthardly worth my time and effort when a customer can call hotpoint for £119 and get the whole thing fixed. rather peeved.

ParticipantI was just trying to explain ways in which electronic repair firms such as EMW seem able to program some modules without having to purchase the correct smartcard from the manufacturer.
There are tens of thousands of setting files for Merloni group appliances which are designed to run on one of many Firmware/CPU combinations. As far as I am aware these setting files are not available from the manufacturer as a block purchase.
I would have expected EMW to have checked they had a copy of the correct settings file and confirmed their ability to flash the CPU/Firmware in your new module prior to asking you to send it.

ParticipantThe thing is that it never crossed my mind to cross reference with EMW prior to sending off. A phone call was made to check if they do module programming. Yes came the reply, £12 to do it then that’s the end of phone call. I got the raw end of the deal, unable to get refund on blank module and no one is willing to help. Puts me off trying to fix Hpt/Ind dishwashers.

ParticipantIf you are willing to post it I can program most modules from the data stored in the old one.

Participantthanks, I will bear this in mind. The old module was burnt out around the chip so it was not possible to retrieve data from there.
