ParticipantI am replacing a door seal on a Creda (17049) I have all the replacement parts but am unable to remove the front panel (I can’t see how I’m supposed to re-fit the door seal through the door!) I have removed the dispenser draw, but the opposite side has a screw holding on the dial behind the fascia, access is through a hole above, I cannot get a regular offset screwdriver to fit through – What tool do I need? I have been to several retailers but not knowing what to ask for is proving very unhelpful.
I’d be grateful for any help, (unlike the local laundrette).Home-educating (we’re all learning here!) mum to three!

I know this is going to sound daft, but can you not get to screw from the top?

I have removed the top of the machine and access to the screw is through a slot above the timer knob, allowing me to remove the front fascia and therefore the front panel.

I have removed thousands of these knobs, all you need is a bog standard pozi screwdriver into the screw on the timer knob shaft, access from slot above, just as *sassie* says.
PS, turn the knob to bring the screw to the top for access. 😉

The correct seal is a 1600125, make sure you have the correct seal because the seal for this machine is not like the common one used for years on these Hotpoint based machines. TBH fitting the new seal is rather difficult on this model. The seal has a double lip that has to be eased inside the plastic drum front whilst you try to fit the outer lip round the outside of the drum front. The drain hole must go at the bottom and you need to make certain that you have the inner lip folded right inside the drum front or it will foul on the inner drum.
I usually start this one from the bottom unlike most common ones which I would fit at the top first, very strong fingers are required.
If you have a 1600072 or a 1603006 seal or a pattern ( copy) of one of these seals then you must not fit this, it will leave a very large gap between the seal and inner drum which will allow items of washing to become trapped or for small items to get into the outer drum.
Not the best seal for a novice to try and fit. 😥

😳 I have got the right part, but am, as you expected, finding it difficult to fit, I can get the outer lip around the drum front but easing the inner lip in at the same time is proving very tricky. I think I need to be an octopus! I haven’t been struggling with it all night, just the past hour.
Can I put the outer lip on first, then refit the clamp band and then ease the inner lip into position? Or will I risk tearing the seal?
Am so near yet so far…May 31, 2007 at 3:08 pm #215445iadom

Virtually impossible to fit the innner lip after securing the outer lip first, you will not be able to push the inner lip over the drum front if it is secured by the clamp. It does get better once you have done the first ten or so.
I always start at the bottom by lining up the drain hole, feed a small portion of the inner lip inside, then a bit of the outer lip, then inner lip and so on, it gets really difficult when you come to the last bit at the top. It all depends on just how much patience you have, how strong your fingers are, or how many finger nails you want to break. 🙂
I would reckon to fit one of these in around 15 to 20 minutes so if all else fails then a decent local independent is not going to charge the earth to fit it for you.

😀 Just wanted to let you know that I did indeed refit the washing machine door seal – it wasn’t easy, bit of trail and error, certainly took longer than twenty minutes but I did get it done.
Broadband been down ever since – but that’s another story!!!
Thankyou all for your help. -
