I am considering replacing a Bosch KGH39A07GB/01 frost free fridge-freezer which is keeping consistent temperature in fridge and freezer, but the freezer is icing up. It has been problem free for over 5 years, but my previous similar HOTPOINT was much cheaper and lasted about 10 years. I have tried defrosting and clearing out ice, but the problem persists. I may not have been quite thorough and patient enough with the deicing, but it appears the freezer defrost is not working properly and now quickly creates ice at the bottom and on the right hand side just below the fridge section. I may try to fix it as it is a better freezer size than current models, but it may be time to replace it.
I have seen all the complaints of frostfree not working properly over the years and now I look around there seem to be an awful lot of high end models with manual defrost. Is this an admission of the failure of the standard frost free designs or just the usual manufacturers’ fiddle to improve economy figures as the defrost is no longer powered?
Where do I go next for a reliable model with a large freezer section?
If the only reliable models are manual defrost should I just stick with what I have got and just keep removing the ice? I know this will cost a bit more to run, but it will take a long time to justify the saving with a new model.
