I need to replace the element on the DWF70. There seem to be no Repair engineers without getting one from Glasgow, which would cost a fortune just to get them here, so can anyone help me do it myself. I believe I will need a couple of Jubilee clips for the job, but i saw Penguin say they were an arse to work on. Also saw a few people here saying £30 for element. Best i can see is £45. Is that fair price. Also any chance of sourcing a copy of the manual please. Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Please read this http://tinyurl.com/o5mq6

You can obtain that element from this site at a reasonable price. Also remember that your appliance is under a five year parts warranty so the most you will have to pay is Hotpoint’s £89.95 labour charge. A better option than attempting what can be an awkward repair without suitable tools and experience.

Part number of element is C00057684. Normal sized jubilee clips will not fit, you need thinner ones.

Unfortunately, since leaving the flat with my son, all the paperwork is missing, so i have no proof of purchase or manual etc. If there was a guarantee certificate to be sent, it wont have been done. i take it i would need that stuff to get hotpoint to do it?? Your help is greatly appreciated, i had read that bit you linked me to already, but after i posted. fully understandable.

Providing that the guarantee information was sent in originally, you’ll be recorded on the system at The Indesit Company.

Is the fact that the model No. was not made 5 years ago, enough to get the free parts as I doubt the form was sent in?

Also the serial number of the machine incorporates a date code, if you post it up we can tell you the date of manufacture. If it is less than 5 years then it follows that you cannot have had it for over 5 years.

Armed with that information it is very unlikely that they will refuse to repair it under warranty.

Hmm – serial number of appliance contains a date code, which, if you post it up, Iadom wil be able to decode for you. Have a look for the label around the edge of the door.

Ill get that later and post it up, very kind of you. I have booked a callout from them as suggested, so just need to arm myself with the proof.
