ParticipantHi all.
I have just been asked to take a look at an old washing machine which is making a loud knocking when on the spin cycle. It’s an Electra Electronic Super Deluxe 1200. There are no plates/stickers or anything else which would give any further info apart from a sticker inside the cabinet which says No2263.
The bearings are fine and the weights are secure. What I have noticed though is that someone has attached a strap to the LHS of the drum which has been secured under the base of the shock absorber and then fastened at the side of the drum casing, thus restricting the amount of ‘bounce’ that the drum is able to do. This strap has snapped and I’m guessing that this is the problem. The unit was purchased a few years ago as a ‘reconditioned’ machine and I’m now wondering if this strap has been added as a ‘cheat’ to possibly compensate for a faulty shock absorber as opposed to it being a standard part ?Does anyone have any info with regard to this please?
Thanks very much.
Dave.

Yes the very old Electra (Creda made) machines did have that safety strap. Most likely the shock absorbers have weaked by now and need replacing and that’s the reason why that strap has snapped.

Nice one, thanks very much for that Martin.
Would you have any idea where the best place would be to go to for spares with regard to shockers and a strap please?
Regards.
Dave.

Is this a Creda or a slightly later Hotpoint made Electra one though. Some of those also had a green strap on one suspension leg. If it is a Hotpoint one then just replacing the suspension units should suffice, the strap wasn’t used all the time anyway.
Suspension for later Hotpoint one is still available but I very much doubt you will find anything for the older, Creda made one.
Can you post a picture from the top with the lid off, we would soon be able to ID it from that.

Or, is the motor on top of the drum or slung underneath?

If the motor is on top of the drum it is a Hotpoint machine, the full suspension kit for that is HERE
I have just checked a few of the older Creda/Electra models on the parts software and they are all listed with around 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of all parts obsolete. 🙁

Thanks iadom,
The motor is indeed mounted at the top back corner of the machine so it looks good for the suspension kit you have suggested being the one I need. It certainly looks like the same ones I have on this machine from the photo.
Thanks for your help.
Dave.

To the best of my knowledge the Electra, sold exclusively by the Electricity Boards was made at various times by Zanussi, Philips/Whirlpool, Creda, Hotpoint and possibly others but the Hotpoint one is the only one with the motor on top of the drum. 8)
