ParticipantSean and I had a long chat on the phone today about whether or not the ISE had a ‘rinse hold’ facility? I wasn’t sure but I do recall earlier this year mention from Jim (I think?) that the machine didn’t have such a thing?
Anyway, the up-shot was that I proceeded to test my machine (delicates 30 degrees, quick wash, no spin, all set. Sure enough the machine completed the cycle without spinning but pumped all the water away and finished as per usual. Conclusion = rinse hold facility not available on this machine!!
The reason I mention all this to you guys is that whilst Sean and I have concluded there is no rinse hold it doesn’t necessarily prove (yet) there isn’t one ❓ And maybe some other programmes and programme functions may allow the end user to be able to suspend the washing in deep water as per what we know to be the effect of rinse hold anyway. So if you know otherwise, please can you let us know?
Sean did suggest about using the timer delay function as an alternative that may create a substitute to rinse hold by the way, but not ideal really?
Any thoughts?

Have given this some more thought since Martin and I had our little chat yesterday.
The whole idea behind rinse hold was to enable customers to manually complete the wash from the last conditioning rinse, specifically to reduce badly wrinkled clothes that had spun out ealier in the day.
As a result the laundry would be stuck to the side of the drum, due to the centifugal forces applied to it and would consequently start to dry in that position. This would cause the laundry to come out very wrinkled and a dam site harder to iron for the customer. The thing is that we are all sometimes caught in the tramlines of traditional thinking (I more than most if the truth be known !).
Bear with me for a moment and i’ll try to explain.
Firstly we are dealing with different performance machines and detergents today than we did when the rinse hold feature first came about.
I think that you will find that most new machines today give a period of gentle tumbeling after the spin to cut down on this effect. The other thing is that more people today tend to use liquid detergents that if used exclusively and at low temeratures, tend to make the machines smell, due to a build up of bacteria breeding sludge on the tub and door gasket. This is also partialy due to the fact that these liquid detergents do not contain bleach.
So do we really want our laundry sitting stewing in a bacterial filled soup all day? even if the conditioners perfume does make it smell nice !
Far better to remove the laundry imediately after the wash process to have them as clean as possible, both visually and also in terms of bacterial residues.
That is why IMHO it is far better to use the time delay feature and remove the laundry as soon as possible after the wash completes if you are going to be out for the morning/day.
If you have been out a lot longer than expected then simply do an additional rinse and spin programe, with or without conditioner. This would take no longer than releasing the old rinse hold feature, and produce cleaner laundry.

Surely though selecting quick wash would cancel any rinse hold given that a wash that doesnt end (without user intervention) can never be described as “quick”
As you have this “test machine” Martin, how about “testing” every cycle and combination of settings and plotting the results?August 25, 2006 at 1:33 pm #186416Martin

He’s a cheeky boy that Mark but I do like him you know as occasionally he comes out with brilliant ideas 😀
Thanks Mark 😉
….I’m off to press more buttons and twiddle with the knob…..will report back later… :waving:

KeymasterOr could it just be the “no spin” option? 😉

Since my last post I have done several different wash settings none of which have ended in a rinse hold situation. There just isn’t that facility on this machine I reckon? :con:
