Its like saying the last farewell to a dear friend.
I had to give the last rites to an old Microtronic today. 😥
Date code 65. Circa May 1983, nearly made it to 28 years old but the alloy back plate has finally given out.
They really don’t make em like that anymore.
Although I have had to do a bit of ‘fettling’ around the buttons and console all of the electronics are original, mainly brushes, one belt and one door seal, still on orignal pump as well.

Eeee by gum that takes me back. I’ve still got the sales brochure from the shop I owned. The 18871 (Microtronic LE) I had on special offer as a ‘SUPER BUY’ for just £279.99. (Yes that’s right £279.99)…bloody bargain price at the time let me tell you!

So, they talked the same sales ball-cocks then as they do today but the difference being both the basic construction and the electronics were undoubtedly, built to last.

I did shed a little tear Martin, and to think most of us were not that impressed with these machines at the time. 😀
£280 equals £729 today allowing for inflation, it also means the machine will have cost around £10.00 per annum to purchase over its lifetime. 😯
