We all know it’s not good news for us, there’s a petition for each region against road pricing schemes…

    Bow to the inevitable 🙁

Road tolls will come, like it or not?

Just my opinion mind 😉 Ken Livingstone is living proof that indirect taxation of the motorist works. The big red C is coming to a city near you real soon. 😥 So it makes sense to charge to travel on the motorways that lead to and from them after all said and done :rolls:

Big Brother is watching and there’s no place to hide for any of us! 😈

And that’s the difference between us and the French, they shout long and hard about stuff like this and often political will is bent.

We give up and just accept whatever we’re told.

    Yes, for faster routes.

Not putting a GPS unit in to track you with. 😉

The European Union has (and is) investing heavily in the latest European Space Agencies ‘Galileo’ satellite system. A vast new, expensive, comprehensive and global system that will include “to the centimetre” accuracy. Welcomed by governments and their agents primarily for surveillence. Surveillence to include road network monitoring, Police tracking systems (i.e tagging, security patrols, prisoner transfers etc etc). Super accurate ‘Sat Nav’ for the mobile phone networks and a thousand other facilities.

A small ‘chip’ the size that we are all too familiar with on our Credit Cards, can be placed on anyone and anything anywhere to track the exact location (as I said earlier) to the centimetre!

Now just ask yourself why the EU would go to such lengths and not incorporate ‘Road Pricing’ into that system? It will happen, protest by all means and well for you. But as sure as Sir Alex is intent on winning one more big cup before he pops his clogs, road pricing (per mile in the UK, per kilometre elsewhere) will happen!

    Re: Road Congestion Charging

Galileo, as I understand it, is to replace the aging and not too hot US military GPS system. Primarily as the US holds the keys and, should they decide to pull the plug, everyone is scuppered.

It was not put in place for road pricing and I am fully aware of the capabilities of the Galileo system or, what’s public at least.

Some bright spark has just come up with this idea which doesn’t bother me particularly if they also reduce the taxation on fuel and scrap the VED at the same time. What I object to is (again) being spanked up just because I use a car.

There are a lot of people unhappy about the idea, not because of what the system is or does, but simply as it’s just another way to bleed the motorist of cash. Again, if it’s fair it’s fine, but I don’t believe that it will be implemented fairly.

But that aside there’s more than a little debate about it in the civil liberties community over the right to privacy after all, we don’t live in a police state, do we?
