Just got my statement from Barclays.
Bloody hell you weren’t kidding.
Β£288.62 charges this three month period.
There’s no charge for the p*ss poor service and inability to speak to anyone at your branch, or concerned with your account, I see.
Maybe that will be on next months. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask. π₯

No no goatboy; you don’t understand. When you give a discount for cash what you’re not supposed to do is pay it into into the bank.

I phoned Barclays on the 14th, for some reason I cannot phone my local branch anymore π₯ but have contact Leicester, I think I was actually speaking to someone in India. They promised to look into my problem and said ‘my local business manager’ would contact me. the following day I was indeed phoned on my mobile by a Mr Cole speaking from Oldham π― . When I suggested that from now on I would have all cheques made out to myself rather than my business, then pay them into my personal account and then transfer them online into my business account as and when needed he sounded at bit flustered and promised to look into my ‘arrangements’ and get back to me. I await his call. π

Like others here, I use Abbey business Banking.
I am a sole trader and so far have been able to keep under the threshold of free banking.
I changed over to Abbey nearly 3 years ago and so far no problems.

Just had a quick look at Abbey, can you control your account online, I pay virtually all my bills that are not covered by DD or SO, online. My cheque book lasts me for years these days.

I don’t use this facility but it looks as if you can. This link takes you to the help pages. You just set up a bill payment.

Most of the agents that I work for pay direct into the account but I havenβt paid suppliers that way yet, still considering it.

Hmm, my online banking with Barclays is one of its best features. The Abbey account does seem a little limited in that respect. I can do all my online transactions from my own accounts page, paying bills online, transferring money into my other accounts with Barclays or other outside savings accounts etc, plus I can pay money into my local branch without any ATM restrictions. I pay Masterpart. DS Supplies , QER etc, plus all my household utility and credit card bills online.
I do not do any work for agents but the local authorities and one major estate agent that I do work for, both pay me via BACS.

I don’t have a business account with Abbey but I do have a private current account and a savings one. I also do a lot of online banking and it seems a pretty comprehensive service. The only time I came unstuck was when I tried to pay my combined gas and electric bill online. They sent me a red bill, followed a few days later by a letter telling me they don’t accept online banking. The only snag up here in Scotland is that Abbey have very few branches.

ParticipantI bank with Abbey Business & carry out online banking etc. Have paid no charges for 5years since I moved from robbing Barclay’s. One of the main points of banking with Abbey Business is it is carried out online, transfers, statements etc.

I am seriously considering switching to Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank and have sent for an application form via their website :-
I can use my local Post Office to deposit my takings each week and draw cash over the counter 6 days a week if I want. Full Internet banking facilities of course and best of all most of this service is FREE !!! π

Nice one Martin π
The calculator to see what you can save per year is an eye opener.

I’ve just received confirmation of Allied & Leicester’s merchant service charges for credit/debit card transactions. Their charges are a set-up charge (one off) of Β£150, an electronic terminal and PIN number extension (rental charges of Β£15 p.m. for terminal made by Hypercom).
Credit Card transactions @ 2.1{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Debit Cards @ 26p.Being as Lloyds TSB rip me off at 4.5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} per credit card their 2.1{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} is very reasonable indeed and that would represent an annual saving to me of around Β£400 (minimum)
I rang my Lloyds TSB ‘Business Manager’ to give him an earbashing about their ripping me off in charges each month. He looked at my account, apologised and said their was bu$$er all he could do, the charges had to stand as company policy. I’ve been banking with Lloyds since 1985 and he will be sorry to lose my business. But if truth be known he really doesn’t give a stuff. I’m just one more sole trader that has got wise to their shabby dealings and no real loss to them anyway!
