Just in the prosess of switching from Dick Turpins bank (Barclays) to Alliance and Leicester, After I realised my bank charge last year was over £600. Has been a bit of a process so far, Mainly due the fact that they arrange for all of your DDs and standing orders to be transfered to the new account. The web site is not as clear as Barclays but you can do anything that you want to do with day to day banking. The only charge I should have with A&L is 23p per hundred cash paid in over a £1000 per Mth, Barclays is 60p for all cash
No Brainer really

I too have been a longstanding Barclays personal and Business customer but the business bank charges have been steadily rising.
The banks have got us where they want us and the ( System ) is designed to prevent us all from having any real alternatives. I reckon we are stuck with it.

It’s nice to hear you’ve switched to A&L Goose, nice one 😉
Whilst their website is far from user friendly, it works OK once you get the hang of it. It’s been 5 months now since I switched and in that time I have paid not one penny in bank charges. In fact in that time period they have paid me £1.28 in current account interest.
Had I still been with Lloyds TSB I would have had to shell out over £200 for the priviledge……no way Jose’…..and take your smelly black horse with you pal. 😉

I have to agree with Petalpop, as I stated earlier in the forum, I have used Abbey for a couple of years and so far I have not incurred any charges.
I might be wrong here but my understanding is the Allied & Leicester’s deposits are made through the Post Office, not a visit I relish….Abbey is made via the hole in the wall, anytime.
I don’t know how the Abbey charges compare with Allied & Leicester if you are a larger business and go beyond the free banking threshold.

I still collect cash/cheques on a 50/50 basis, how do you pay cash into a hole in the wall?Jim.

50/50, how do you get your floorboards down?
You can bank notes in the hole in the wall in the same way as cheques.

To add insult to injury Barclays have just billed me £56 in bank charges to close my account 👿 👿 👿 👿 I think I have made the right decison by changing banks!

Challenge it Goose the cheeky beggars or at least ask them to break it down and explain why such a high charge. You could also find out who the manager is so when you repair his washer you can charge suitably 😈
You could also check this lot out, http://www.caterallen.co.uk as I said in a previous post, I’m with them and they keep paying me lovely interest 🙂 🙂

Hello,
We use ABBEY Business NO CHARGES online banking only drawback is having to pay cash into ATM so we do so in small amounts.
If you want high street banking at a reasonable cost go no further than Yorksire Bank. Very low bank charges and 1-2-1 business managers.
Hope this helps

Quite happy so far with Alliance & Leicester , Only quibble is there debit card is an Electron and is not as universally accepted as Visa or Mastercard.
