I’ve had about 3 non payers in last six months compared to 3 in previous 10 years.

How come? Don’t they pay you on completion? 😕

renting washers attracts a lot of bad payers, still worth doing if you can put up with it, i must have lost hundreds of machines over past 25 yrs

About 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} pay on completion. 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} I leave a bill and they send a cheque – usually they’ve left me a key to get in so I know I can trust them. I almost never ask for cheque guarantee cards because most people seem, and indeed are, genuine. I’ve had slow payers in the past but that’s generally holiday cottage cleaning companies who have cash flow problems. One recent non-payer (young teenage girls sharing a flat) claimed to have no money in the house, partner was out with chequebook, said they’d send a cheque and so on. Another paid me with a cheque in my trading name and I don’t have a business account so I sent it back and that was three months ago. I might go the small claims route on that one but I don’t like using my time that way and anyway I’m sure it’s because they’ve hit hard times. The last one, I didn’t have any invoices with me and I wrote the bill out on a bit of paper with my address then forgot about it because there was no carbon copy. Discovered it when writing up my accounts couple of months later. Will have to call at the door to remind them because got no name. :boops:
Maybe I’m too trusting but 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the folks round here are worthy of that trust and it’s a pain having to apply new rules because of the very few rogues.

    Good answer Mike.. 😀

Sadly I can’t adopt the same approach round here, it’s pay me now, no cheques accepted, no bills left… a no dosh, no can do part of the world. 🙁

Cash, Debit Card or Credit Card payments only = solid gold 21st century payment options. 8)

Cheques are not acceptable in many retail outlets these days as you know, cost too much to process, take days to clear. Now with my GPRS electronic CC/DC machine I don’t need the hastle. Besides, customers are well conditioned into paying using ‘chip & pin’ these days anyway and with these modern day gizmo’s you can cop their money right there and then in their own front kitchen!!! 8)

    Result…and no rogue customers!!! 😈

    Re: Rogue customer

Although we take a lot of card payments and it is suggested as the prefered method, we still find cheque the most popular payment method and there is no way we could survive without taking them. Especially for the repair where a relative or someone lets you in and is left a cheque by the owner. Mind you most people moan when writing them that its the first time they have written a cheque for months and have forgotten how to do so. TBH cash is a rare sight on the road these days.

I have no problem with cheques as I’ve never had a bouncy one. I am finding with the increased number of BER machines it can be difficult to get the call-out charge from customers who have also got to find money for a new machine.

    Re: Rogue customer

after going on a local police card fraud course there is no way I would allow my card to be used in a mobile card machine if i didnt know the person holding it. I would expect to have my cheque accepted in my own home. my work is about 60/40 cheque cash with cheques costing me 28p and the very low number of rubber ones is not a problem as its usually sorted by an embarrased customer.
