ParticipantHi
The lower right hand cooker element broke in my 4040DB cooker. An engineer repaired this but he used a different element to those illustrated as being correct (3 prongs) he used a 4 prong element that he said was compatible. When I used the cooker the thermostat didn’t kick in and it heated to 300. I had recently tested the thermostat and it was OK before he came. Does anyone know if this element was OK to use? I don’t have the serial number.
Also the light for this cooker to say it has come up to temperature is now on permanently. The engineer told me that there was some unfixable (blah blah shorting blah blah) problem. It had occasionally been the case that what appeared to be a backlight stayed on when it shouldn’t but this permanent red light being on is new. Any ideas? Engineer is returning on Wednesday and I need the information before then.
Thanks

Thermostat is jammed in the “On” position. Red light should cycle with the thermostat to tell you when power is on and off to the elements.
Thermostat for both ovens is the same; p/no 93682722.
R/h base element is p/no 93700953 and apperars to have three fingers.Penguin45.

Thanks Penguin45. The guy fitted a four prong element to this oven rather than a 3 prong one and said that it would be just as good. I need to know whether this is true or not. The element works although obviously something has gone wrong with the thermostat when he did the job. The question is really whether to let him loose on my cooker again if he has done the job wrong/badly or whether he is right about the element and the thermostat malfunction is just a coincidence.

Quick update on the cooker. The cooker repair man returned today and diagnosed and fixed the fault (loose wire which he said was his fault from when he fitted the new element). Seems to all be working OK (touch wood). Perhaps I should have had more faith..
