This is a Hygena APL 8222 dishwasher. I used a Finish tablet, made sure the rinse-aid is full and topped up. This is a fairly hard water area, so I have made sure the salt container is filled with the correct dishwasher salt, and the salt flow control is at its maximum at 3. This machine does not get a great deal of use, but is cleaned regularly. However, none of has any effect of the poor outcome of washed dishes.

From a previous enquiry, I assumed my problem was the lack of sufficient salt, but since the flow control is at maximum, I am left to wonder if this flow mechanism is not operating correctly. Is it a simple matter to determine if this adjustment is actually working? I presume I’d need to dismantle the dishwasher to check? Is that an easy task?

    is it using salt ?

is it limescale on the plates or is the surface of the plate damaged ?

    Thanks for replying…

Doesn’t appear to use much salt, although I’m not sure how quickly it would be expected to go down! Didn’t need topping up since the last time I used it.
No, surfaces on all crockery are good and smooth. The ‘roughness’ comes off after a good hand wash.
Not sure how I tell if it’s limescale?
Any idea how difficult a tear down of this dishwasher might be?
How does the salt dispensing mechanism work?

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the link.
Does the resin regeneration unit require replacement from time to time?
Would I be able to easily determine if valve D (on the schematic) is actually opening?

    Thanks.

resin cant be replaced it would have to be the softner unit as a whole

I dont know if they go faulty, never had one with a problem but am in merseyside so no hard water

as for the valve you try and locate it and check the coil to make sure its not blown but all i can tell you is its around the water softner somewhere

got no access to tech info on these

Dave, thanks again for replying. Hopefully I’ll be able to check continuity of the coil that operates the valve with an ohmmeter.
    Cheers
    Roger.
