hi
my rs21 has had the samsung recall and new parts fitted
the evaporator heater failed after 13 months and samsung did’nt want to know
fitted a new evap heater and defrost sensor and the unit worked fine
now it is icing up again but this time around the tray heater at the bottom of the unit
i’ve tested the heaters for resistance and they seem ok the defrost sensor reads 6.9Kohms and the thermal fuse is ok
spent a lot of money on repairs and i’m tempted to buy a new unit
any ideas what the problem could be
i suspect the tray heater is faultybest regards

Have you tried the error test using the buttons on the control?
The tray heater can be metered, not sure exactly what resistance you should get but i would imagine it would be around 1-1.5k?

thanks clive
the tray heater registers 2.1Kohms which is bang on
can these heaters work intermittently when they are on the way out?
the test buttons do not always tell the truth
the fan was frozen solid but the test said everything was fine
i think they may be femalebest regards

Heaters generally work perfectly until the day they fail then never work again…of course it may simply be a mechanical blockage in the drain hole like a wayward price label or frozen pea 😀

Drain heater can only be tested correctly with all heaters disconnected. If heater is ok try connecting a small piece of copper wire to the defrost heater and place other end in drain hole. Not exactly proffesional but it works………

You NEVER do this on a spring wire heater…..your liable to cause a short and could make the cabinet live. These heaters only have a insulation that is thinner than normal cable.
Extending the heater from a bar heater is different.
