    You find us .co.uk
Had Vicki Pollard on the phone today trying to sell for this lot.
First of all the phone line was poor so I didn’t even get her name and when I asked her to repeat something she said ‘I’ve already told you’.
Then when I was in the process of telling her I’d already received calls from them and that I wasn’t interested she asked ‘what have the other people had said then’. I put the phone down on her with a polite Go away.
She then rang me back 😯 ‘Did you tell me to go away?’. I tried to tell her it was a polite way of saying something else I was told to shut up. 👿
Good advert for them or what!!!!
Anyone else had dealings with them??

She probably had to take the job or lose dole payments if she refused. Now she’s trying to get the sack.

    That sounds very fimilar 🙁

Alot of the workers now, are so used to the abuse, they just soak it up, then carry on trying to sell you something; or fire a load of abuse back 😡

    I’ve got a few solutions…

My favourite (coz it’s easiest) is just put the phone on speaker, put the handset down, and go do some work. Sometime they waffle on for a few minutes before ‘Hello? Hello, Sir? Hello? Kerdunk!’

Another option is abuse 😈 but it’s not advised. If your gonna do it, you’ve gotta do something really nasty and original!

The easiest it just, ‘No thank you, I’m very busy/not interested, good bye.’

Or I have Martin’s quote pinned on the notice board next to the phone…

Martin wrote:“It is unlawful under the “Telecommunications (Data Protection & Privacy) (Direct Marketing) Regulations 1998, for anyone to make a direct marketing call without first obtaining prior permission from the recipient!”…………..”Now can you please give me the name of who you wish to speak to, also tell me the name of the company you represent, your name and/or your staff number?”

If that doesn’t work, see option 1 or 2. 😉

    More options here!

Yeh but no but Tony theres this whole uver fing wot you know nuffing about. Its called bonus yeah right mate the more people she rings yeah the more calls get registered to her yeah Only the T**t who bought the phone system only paid for the register, not the outcome of the call monitor.

It must have been the same firm that called me, soppy git he was, polite enough until he got fed up and asked me whether or not I knew what was good for my business. I said yes I did and that it sure wasn’t wasting my time talking to a F**kwit like him and slammed the phone down. About ten minutes later I got a call from his line manager, told him he could so* off as well.

My pet hate is those calls you get where the person on the other end of the phone claims to be called Nicholas Wilton or Timothy Ponsonby-Smythe, you know from the accent its a lie. I now confront this head on. they introduce themselves as someone they clearly aren’t, all I say is “no your not” “If you’re going to start this call by fibbing to me I shall hang up” ” Now tell me your real name or go away” Most of them go away.

Don’t know about a good advert for the company but some of these people are the best adverts for enforced sterilisation you will come accross. You wouldn’t believe I’m married to someone working in telesales would you. we only met cos she phoned here to sell me something ……………. forget what that was now

    A mail-order bride? 😀

Your right about the ‘Hello, my name is Daaayyyyy -vid,’ in an Indian accent. If the first thing they do is lie, it’s not making a good impression 😕

There usually are only 2 standard ‘opening addresses’ that cold callers come out with, the first being … “Could I speak to the owner of the business there please?” …and “Could I speak to the person that deals with your advertising?”

To avoid being rude to them, and in order to maintain your self respect and that of your company, simply reply……. “How’s your day going so far?…. as mine is going so very bad I suggest you phone again another day….thank you for calling, goodbye for now!”

I had a cold call a long time ago , from a woman with a scottish accent ,trying to sell me some video tapes . I told her that I was the wrong person to call , because I belong to a strict religeous sect that forbids any cotact with the media , including video tapes . Se apologised and hung up . Ten minutes later she called me back . She wanted to know more about the sect , and asked how she could join . Then she wanted to know if I would be interested in marrying her ! It makes you wonder who was winding up who .

Get yourselves registered with the Telephone Preference Service. Reduces these calls by 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}.

Some do get through simply because they have failed to run a check on who is registered. When they phone, tell them you are registered, then ask for their name, telephone number and name of their team leader. Then tell the person they are actually committing a criminal offence and you will report them to the TPS.

Sorts them out just like that. Works every time.

Good plan Alex, it would how ever take some of the fun out of my day. As it would if someone were to outlaw those poor sods who come around with the huge bags full of felt tip pens and solar powered umbrellas. I reckon I will give it a while before I go to the preference service, there are still days when one of these poor souls turns into the emotional punch bag for my bad hair day…….if I had some.

I have been registered with TPS for quite some time and at first it did have a dramatic effect on cold calls. Unfortunately it only covers calls made in the UK. These calls are now coming in on a regular basis from all parts of the world.

I have an ex directory number that is only given out to family. Last night I was enjoying my soak in a hot bath after clearing all the snow from my drive to get the car up, when the ex directory phone rang, I grabbed a towel and dripping all down the hall into the living room picked up the phone expecting to hear from someone I knew, “Good evening, I’m sorry to bother you, my name is Matthew, ” thats as far as he got before I told him in no uncertain terms that , in fact he was bothering me, before I put the phone down.
