    Hi,

The kettle is leaking from the base. On dismantling it appears to be coming through the seal. Does anyone know where I can get hold of a spare?

Otherwise I was planning on bedding the old seal back into place with high temp silicone sealant. Will this work?

Searching the web it appears the ‘Base Kit’ is obsolete for that model. New kettle time as leaks and electric don’t mix. :zap:

Thanks for looking for a replacement part Martin. When I went to the Russell-Hobbs site I was a bit surprised. It looked like it had been put together by an inept 11-year old, I thought they were a major brand. Also no spares for me.

Dismantled the thing and it looked like the red rubber gasket sealing the element to the kettle body was the source of the leak. I think that either it had lost its elasticity over time or the scale has pushed its way under the seal. So descaled and just used some high temp silicone above and below the gasket to bed the gasket back into place. No leaks any more and back to working correctly 🙂

Further update 18 months later and still no problems.

I bought a Logik jug kettle (made in PRC) yesterday for a fiver. If I can get a year or twos brewups out if it before chucking it in the wheelie I’m happy.

The kettle appears to be fully ‘recycle able’ by the look of it. So perhaps I’ll sling it in the green wheelie instead……WEEEEE…! 😉
