ParticipantI have a piece of cr&p masquerading as a fridge freezer. Some very drunk people designed it on the back of a fag packet after discovering that the company were about to make them redundant.
The expensive lump of metal happens to be a Whirlpool S20BRSS31. It’s now just over 3 years old.
About 13 months after purchase I had to call an engineer out because the lights would flash and the water/ice would “pulse” whenever either were operated. I told the engineer that I didn’t have the receipt and he accepted that it was in warranty. He replaced the rear board and left the old one explaining that I might want to keep it if I ever have any other faults. He obviously spends a lot of time with these machines!!
Over the subsequent 25 months the following problems have arisen:
– Ice box has siezed
– Lights have started flashing again
– Water has started “pulsing” again
– Meat and vegetables in the lower drawers have been freezing randomly regardless of the selection on the side
– Ice Maker has jammed
– Top of freezer has frozen up
– Freezer display has switched to dashes for no apparent reasonLooking at the board it seems I’m not the only victim. I do have to ask how a 15 yr LEC is still going strong in my garage and my 3 yr old Stella Fridge hasn’t as much as murmered in disapproval yet the Whirlpool which cost 4 times more than the two put together seems incapable of lasting more than a few weeks without something falling over.
It seems that each month brings 👿 a new problem. And so we come to May 2007 when this shining example of a white elephant decides to go FUBAR. Neither fridge nor freezer operate. Lost the best part of £300 worth of food as a result. Cheers Whirpool….just what I need.
From what I can see it is not the rear board (i.e. I swapped it for the old board which only had one fault on it), I think that it’s the starter for the compressor that is deficient but as I can’t get the thing off the compressor to check it I can’t know for sure.
I’ve searched online for a manual for the Fridge Freezer but can’t find anything. All I’m looking for is an Illustrated Parts List and Schematic. (Yes I’m qualified – HND ELectronics).
I presume that Whirlpool have never produced a manual and that is why I can’t find one online??????

Well it looks like the pile of cr@p needs a front board and a rear board. Might as well buy a proper make that can actually do the job without falling over every five minutes!
