    Hi all
Have just had an email from one of my clients saying in the near future anyone undertaking work for them will have to part of this scheme, anyone know anything about it, I don’t do enough work for this particular customer to warrant paying out much to join a scheme I’ve not heard of

The only scheme I’ve heard this week is the Kitemark certification.

    See here.

Andy, please consider too that none of your competitors will qualify either. So your “clients” (very posh I’m sure) will have to go fly!

We had one of the letting agents that we do work for insisting that we join up to this scheme nearly well over a year ago. We have been doing work for them for over 10 years and all of a sudden they came up with this and said we wouldn’t get any further work unless we joined. I looked at the cost and said we wouldn’t join, but we are still getting the work.

If you are a paid up member of the WTA just tell them you are a WTA member and agree to the WTA terms so you do not need to join them.

Tell them most contractor schemes are about the money for registration and not checking if the contractor is safe to use.

You have to jump through hoops and more hoops to qualify for a Kitemark (ISO9001) standards. I can’t even envisage manufacturers own service going to those lengths in getting their own organisation registered.

    Re: Safe contractor scheme

We were doing work for the Local Authority in sheltered accommodation and had been doing this for 25 Years ! then they sold all the accommodation stock to a Private Company and then things started to become involved, First off they wanted Risk assessments for each job, reams of detailed forms to be completed with the onus on us to identify things like asbestos being present in the course of our work on their sites, then shortly after came ISO 9000 & ISO 9001 QA again with reams of paperwork.

We knew we were not going to be able to comply and none of our competitors would be complying either so the Housing Associations costs would spiral to meet these new demands. Yes we lost the work but with some careful thinking and planning replaced the vacuum with other work which was far less bother.

Just an update, told the agent I wasn’t prepared to join the scheme and 2 months past the deadline they still call me out for jobs, when I asked if this was going to be a problem there was no comment, can only assume everyone has said the same oh well that £150 saved 🙂

did the same with a company that asked me to join , I said no.
and 4 months on they still call me, so you don’t need to keep joining schemes ,
