ParticipantI have a problem with a Samsung american fridge freezer, bought 2nd hand.
The fridge temp is set at 3 degrees C, but I placed a mechanical thermometer inside to check. When I got home the temperature inside had gone upto about 5-6 degrees. It reached 10 before the compressor and evaporator fans came back on. The guy I bought it from had said that every so often he has to defrost the fridge as the temperature increases, so I had though it might be due to ice build up on the evaporator. Apparently, he had a service engineer out a while ago who replaced the temperature sensor in the fridge.
I don’t have wiring diagrams so I don’t know how it’s wired up, but have no idea why the compressor had not cut in until the temp was 10. The evaporator fans and condenser fan was also off, so I know it must be a control problem. I had even wondered if it could be the PC board ? Also I assume that the evaporator runs below zero so would have defrost cycles.
I’m a commercial refrigeration engineer but don’t do any domestic appliances, I only deal with commercial control systems and air con etc.
Can you please try and help me out ?
Many Thanks

Hi mate – Not wishing to teach granny how to suck eggs but be aware that most domestic fan assisted units are set up using supposed produce temperature NOT air temperature (unless they are fitted with an air stat such as some Frigidaire units). As an example, LEC use a block of lard into which is placed a probe and the lard temperature is the one listed. Also the spec for a domestic fridge allows a temperature up to 10C although most run in the 2-5C range. I’d give the manufacturer a call first to find out what they expect before taking it further. To state the obvious it wasn’t in defrost when you had the 10C ??

Commercial refrigeration is usually done on air temp which is what I’m used to. I thought it possibly was in defrost during the higher temperature, as the fans were off, but it isn’t like commercial stuff where all the controls are easier to get at.
Kevin, it’s a side by side model with a water and ice dispenser, model number is SR-S2028CVW. Ijust checked the temperature and it’s fine. The guy I bought it from had said that the fridge part (not the freezer)would rise in temerature regularly and need defrosting, which was why I thought of ice on the evaporator. I don’t know what temp one of these evaporators would run at or suction pressures etc. Like many domestics it’s on R134a. Apparently it has a twin cooling system, but I think it must have only one compressor. If it was commercial it would have a EPR on the fridge evaporator due to the differences in temperature, but as I say I know not alot about domestic stuff.
Kind Regards

Hi
I seem to be having a problem with the same samsung sr-s2028cvw fridge-freezer
for two days now the freezer has been showing a temp of -14 on the freezer display, (its normally set to -22)
when you press the freezer temp button and select -22, you can hear the compressor start and over an hour or so it attains its -22 deg C temp again?
any ideas? I can’t seem to find my user manual and the unit is 2 yrs old now!
(ps I saw a post about defrosting? does anyone know if this model auto defrosts the freezer? )
also it seems strange that the setpoint has been -14 on both occasions????
replies appreciated,,, confused of essex!!!!!!!!

Drop me an email and I’ll send the user manual for you 😀
Although, I think there may be a problem with the unit to be honest. As it is a frost free fridge/freezer (all Samsung side by side are) it may well have a defrost problem and be over-iced in the freezer.
You could try a complete defrost (48 hours) and see if that sorts it out but if it happens again quite quickly it’s engineer time in all honesty, have a look at repairs@ should you need one 🙂
