ParticipantI have an American Fridge Freezer (Samsung Model SR-S2028CSS) – five years old.
I’ve had loads of problems, most of them visited here on this Forum at some stage or other. I have had Samsung engineers out in the past to solve the problem of my water tank freezing over and all they could do was what they called a modification (adding some pipe insulation to the water supply pipe in the fridge compartment).
This never really solved the problem and I am fed up with the Fridge Freezing up.
What I would like to do is keep using the ice making facility but get rid of the water tank in the fridge.
Is there any way that I can bypass the water supply going to the cooling tank and just supply the Ice Maker. This would satisy my need for ice, without me needing to continually throw food away due to the water tank freezing and splitting all over again.
Hope someone can help!

is there frost behind the water tank on the panel? Sounds like evaporator cover to me if it is.

thanks for the advice.
It does seem that most of the similar threads point to this evap cover.
Is the evap cover an electrical part. It looks just like a plastic cover and if so why does the fault actually happen.
After posting my message I went to have a look at the unit and once again it’s not working properly.
A couple of weeks ago I defrosted the unit over several days and restarted it, only to find the water tank had split. So I disconnected the water supply and restarted. Everything went OK for about 3 weeks.
I have just discovered that the Freezer is not working too well. The top two shelves are not freezing food properly but the bootom two seem OK. I had this problem as well as the frozen water tank before my recent defrost.
Can all this be down to the Evap Cover?
Right now I feel like just chucking this one away. It cost me over £1200 when I bought it and now they are readily available for about £550.
More advice is certainly welcome.

Water ingress into foam stops fan. Cover is modified comes complete with fan assy. Does not explain freezer fault though.

Cheers
I will cetainly conside replacing the Cover then.
Any ideas about the Freezer problem. I did say that the problem had occured before and then temporarily righted itself following an extensive defrost and power down. Then 3 weeks later fault with the two shelves not freezing returned.
Good info so far please keep it coming!
