KeymasterHi,
The unit in question is not old infact about 8 months, but as Samsung do not have their own engineers to attend site to rectify problems, the folks they subcontract to seem to have very little experience on these productsWe have had two diffrent companies, both at a loss as to whats the cause of our problem.
the problem is, that at about once a week the unit emitts a screaching noise, all most like a fan motor bearing problem, so loud as to wake us up, on the floor above, opening the freezer door stops it, untill about 2/3 mins after shutting it again, this will continue for about 30/40 mins, then peace is restored.
The unit itself works fine otherwise, no sign of any ice build up, and the temps are always ok thats -20 freezer, +3 fridge
any one any ideas?
all best

It is as you suspect I think, one of the fan motors.
I’m guessing it never does it when the engineer is there so to help him, there are two fan motors, one each behind the fridge and freezer rear panels, the next time it makes the noise, if possible try and work out which of them it is.
You may also want to point the engineer to this website where we can help with technical information should he require it 😉

I’m having a similar problem on a 2-3 yr old model.
I think you will find it is the fan motor in either the Fridge or Freezer, you can easily tell which because the noise will only stop if you open that side. You can restart the problem within a minute or so by manual pressing the door switch, and to be sure decrease the temperature.
When the engineer arrives you can start the noise by following the instructions printed on the back of the fridge:
“Manual Running : Press “Quick Freezer” button and “Refrigerator Temperature” button simultaneously for about 8 seconds, all display lights turn off with a beep. And then press “Refrigerator Temperature” button just once, the unit runs for about 24hours with a beep.
* To cancel the above test functions, tune the power off and on.”My problem is a build up of ice around the fridge fan, to which I’ve found no solution other than opening up the back of the fridge and chipping the ice away, so much for frost free!
