I have had a dryer to fix in my workshop. The dryer is not starting and it is showing HE error code on the display. According the manual it means Compressor overheat. It makes me think the dryer may have been overloaded and the compressor overheated. I tried to find a service manual or a wiring diagram for this but I had no luck. I guess there must be a cut out thermostat somewhere. I removed the front cover to get access. I was looking for a thermostat near or on the compressor but I can’t find. Is it in or on the compressor? If someone has an idea or has ever come across HE error please help me out.

It will req PCB and compressor which is in fact the whole base assy with compressor and evaporator coil complete
There isn’t a Thermal overload that you can access.

Thank you for the quick response. Yes I don’t think it would be an economically justified repair.

    Hello everyone,

I wanted to share that I recently came across this same issue. This page is the top result for this error code and model number on Google, so!

I called a technician and the error code has to be suspended to allow the dryer to work again. Your machine could possibly be damaged because it overheated, though, so do this at your own risk.

(I am Dutch, so there might be slight differences in our machines. I’ll try to make the explanation work regardless of language)
1: Turn the machine on (HE code appears).
    2: Turn the machine off.
3: The display should have four buttons inlaid in it. Press and hold the middle two buttons!
4: Turn the machine on. (HE code is now gone, all lights on the display are burning)
5: Release the buttons you were holding.
6: Turn off and on one more time.
7: Your machine should now be working again!

If your dryer still won’t work, the overheating has caused permanent damage to your machine and will need replacement parts. (or be replaced entirely)

    Best of luck!

My 2015 DV70F5E0HGW machine has just done similar, displaying HE and refusing to do anything. I actually ordered a new one as I could not reset it. I gave it another try and its now running.

    there are only 4 buttons

    1. turn off from the power button
    2. hold the first button (of 4) on the left & press the power button. the machine then starts & you hear all its motors run briefly while it does a system test, 02 was displayed.
    3. turn off, then hold buttons 1 & 4 then turn on wait 5 seconds before releasing.

I did check the lower filter for the condenser and the fabric mat had separated from the plastic carrier and was stuck along the condenser grate. its possible the air flow was unduly disrupted and caused the HE error.

the machine had been playing up for the last few weeks, taking ages before it would spin & not drying fully.

it never gets especially hot, I hope its working now & I can cancel the new one that is arriving tomorrow. That said, 7 years is a good innings.
