I have a Samsung DV80H8100HW that randomly switches off during a cycle, there is no consistency. When you try and switch on you can hear the relay attempting to latch but the machine does not come to life. It will switch back on after a few attempts or maybe a lot of attempts. I thought it was a dry joint on the varistor as it cut out when I moved it, but resoldering made no difference apart from it doesn’t cut out if I move the varistor. Totally stumped.

    Heat pump dryers are tricky.

When you say it does not come to life, is it dead, as in the display et all is dead? Or, is it that the display is live but the machine is inoperable?

The boards in these things tend to be pretty robust so I’d not assume anything in that unless you can evidence a failure on the electronics. Sensors, not quite so solid but more likely is the likes of the compressor overheating and cutting out, cooling off and then restarting which would give kinda the symptom you describe.

Just an update, I managed to successfully repair the fault. It turned out to be a dry joint on an AC/DC converter ic all back up and running perfectly

Your Samsung DV80H8100HW dryer might be experiencing an intermittent electrical issue that isn’t limited to just the varistor. Since resoldering the varistor didn’t resolve the problem, the issue could be related to other components such as the control board, thermal fuse, or door switch. Intermittent power issues are often caused by faulty connections, damaged wiring, or components that are failing under load. I’d recommend checking for any loose connections or damaged wires, and if they all seem intact, consider testing or replacing the thermal fuse or control board, as these are common culprits in such scenarios. If you’re not comfortable performing these tests, it might be worth consulting a professional technician to diagnose and repair the issue accurately.

“as these are common culprits in such scenarios” not necessarily my old fruit pastal!
So you used your introduction to the poster`s problem to offer your humble basic advice that you copiued as a ruse to tell the world about College Papers, in other words, you pay someone to do your work for you. Namely outsourcing! Only in USA would this be acceptable; pretty dire state of affairs; truly bad: you`re supposed to do the work and think for yourself not farm it out to some other person! Do that too many times and you learn bugger all and come out knowing bugger all you just look “good” for the amount of debt you accumulated. Ridiculous.
