ParticipantHi, Hoping someone can offer some decent advice on my samsung fridge freezer please.
Samsung American Style Fridge Freezer Model Number RSG5DUMH1/XEU
So I think I’ve been scammed twice with this, I bought it second hand as working, they dropped it off, it made noise and the lights came on, wasn’t until later we realised the compressor wasn’t working but they blocked our calls. Called a local tech guy, he said it probably needed regassing and came out to do it, he told us that it could take 24 hrs for the compressor to kick in if it didn’t it was likely gone and he’d replace it.
Anyway next day the compressor still wasn’t working so I had a look, the start relay wasn’t connected, I don’t know if we were being scammed for an upsell or he missed it, either way we wont be having him back.
I followed a few online guides and this is what I’ve done so far:
- Fans work
- Tested the External Compressor Protector it read .5 ohms
- Compressor Start and Run pins tested OK
- Fridge and freezer temp sensors tested OK both ohms values matched samsungs spec sheets
- Tried force starting on the front panel and the self diagnostic, no joy
- The LED on the PCB has a single flash, according the the panel it means “Not Starting” so not at all helpfull.
- The only other test I could find was to test the voltage between the signal and ground at the invertor conector on the pcb. I couldn’t get a reading but I think that may have been me, there’s a 5 volt supply there which if I short to the led is defenately working but my multimetre wouldn’t read it so I’m not sure if the signal supply is faulty or not.
The only other thing that might be relevant is that the tech guy didn’t pull a vaccum on the compressor when he regassed it, I don’t know if its needed on a fridge like it is with a car but I’m thinking if he was intending coming back to “fix” the compressor would he waste the gas to fill it. Was he right when he said it wouldn’t run if the gas is low and is there a way to check that?
Any comments greatfully recieved

ParticipantCurious if you ever got a resolution to this issue? I have the exact same model as you with a Freezer that doesn’t want to get very cold! Digital display showing -20c, yet internal thermostat is showing -5c at best, normally -1 to 0c. The fridge side is working fine, so can’t be a compressor issue.

ParticipantHi, just wondering if you ever found a resolution to your issue, as I am experiencing the same issue?
