Hello AllI have a Samsung Side by Side Fridge-Freezer Model No. RS21FGRS. It was bought unfortunately 7/10/2003 – so is 2.5 years old and out of warranty. This model has ice and chilled water dispensers activated by levers and a bottle hatch – small door in fridge door.
I believe I have a very similar problem to other post on the forum, but would like a clearer picture of what the faulty item /s – parts are likely to be and their expected costs? – Thanks
My fault symptoms are: the fridge fan is very noisy, this fan is behind a panel that says twin cooling and has a zigzag white piping screwed onto the panel at the bottom of the fridge compartment.
Ice forms inside the fridge and behind this panel where there is wafer thin silver fridge cooling – freezing elements or something?
The Temperature is showing 11c and 3c for the fridge.
Sadly – this is the second time that I’ve posted this problem as No one answered or came up with any suggestions / thoughts last time – second time lucky?
Since then I have defrosted the entire unit (even though it’s a frost free fridge – freezer!!–??) which seemed to cure the problem, but only for about one / two weeks alas – now the fridge – fan is even noisier and no doubt the ice has built up again behind the panel – ( as I have found ice again inside the fridge), ideally I would like a list of the possible faulty items and their expected costs as the unit is out of warranty – Thank you in advance for any help or guidance given!!!!!
So any suggestions, I’m keen to try and fix this myself if the forum thinks it possible as I’m currently unemployed and we don’t really have any cash right now especially for a New Fridge freezer!!!! Thanks again – Simon – hcr.hip@googlemail.com

Hi Simon, We have one of these fridges and had the same problem. Fan gets noisy with ice and sometimes the drinking water frezzes. As the fan is restricted, the top of the fridge does not get cool.
As it was under guarantee, Comet came and changed the bottom back panel in the fridge section.
1 One problem seems to be the original panel was not water proof enough – it is a polystyrene pressing and water impregnates into it so on the defrost cycle, water is retained and re-freezez and collects more frost. The new panle also has better air flow – more room around the fan.
I suggest you take out the panel (after defrosting) and dry it out thoroughly in the sun, then seal it with some sort wateproofer or tape. After a few months, however, even our new panel is freezing up so Comet have been called again. However it is better than before. Panel costs about £130.
2 Check the drain hole. The defrost water collects in a channel and goes out the back into a tray over the compressor.
3 Apparently there is a heater that defrosts the evaporator (chiller coil) – Check this has continuity.
4 There is also some sort of sensor that controlls the temp.
5 Finally I have heard of the PCB being changed because the defrost programme has gone wrong – doubt if this is the problem but is a favourite with engineers as it looks good.Latest – Next door have a new Samsung f/f with more gismos – extra cool tray with its own control. They have had some freezing problems and have been offered their money back !! Looks like the design fault is still there.
Also while we were on holiday with only our sone at home, the fridge got better because the door was opened a lot less and it managed to defrost itself.

Hi help me & dal
the fault you both have is within the defrost circuit of your fridge, the fault will either lie with the defrost thermal overload or the defrost heater.it would be very doubtfull if the PCB had failed.

Thanks for your advice and Guidance…
I have had a response / reply that I’m going follow up but I might as well ask the forum their thoughts just as a fail safe…..
“Your problem is very common, it needs 3 new parts i have these on the van,
depending on how badley iced up you are looking at £80-00 to £90-00, this
includes the call out”
This seems reasonable to me – does it to you Guys / the forum – it does look very iced up though behind the panel, what does that mean – more £££ ?Thanks again Simon

r600a’s reply as to the nature of your problem points directly to the icing behind the panel.
If you have found your repairer through the site you should be pretty confident as he will almost certainly have read this thread!
