Set on rinse, fills up and flashes BE.Set on spin ,empties and flashes the same.Motor problem? One of these new induction motors with two three pin plugs, larger one for the windings, smaller for the tacho(why three wires for tacho).Continuity checks OK but dont know exact resistance.Checked harness Ok.Could be Power board(Error EB(?) on chart says motor triac fault -change motor) surely the triac is on the power board.Without pulling the taco off the motor how does this work.

It means the problem is with the triac or the tacho, both would need checking :

EB- Motor Triac Short – Tacho circuit – Replace motor

Replacing the motor is an option I guess to see which one is at fault 😕

It seems a bit of a hit and miss affair i.e.fit a motor if it spins OK if not fit a new board. As the parts are expensive (Power board £107,motor probably £100 plus and 10 days delivery) there cant be any money in the job because you are going to be left with one expensive part. This aint engineering this is guesswork! One of the reasons I started this thread was to try and flush out some information about these new motors and how they can get the high speeds out of them and how the tacho works-why a third wire? We’re going to come across more of them-they look as if theyre as cheap to produce as brush motors and they are fitted in the new Hotpoints. Any info please will be appreciated.

This is Korean technical support at it’s best 🙁

Seen a few samsung machines. Does the motor judder before it flashes up the error code? If it does more the module than the motor. (I’d like someone to explain the motor operation as well.)

It’s a three phase motor that is fed by an invertor. The frequency of the invertor will determine the motor speed. (Three phase motors have a much higher output torque than a single phase motor with the same size stator/rotor assembly) Why the three wires from the tacho…? could it be a three phase output? not sure.

I assume the inverter is located on the main board? Is there any way of testing these motors / inverters?

The motor will be “star” connected. ie all the coils will be connected in a star configuration with the central joint insulated and not accessible. The only test on the motor will be a coil resistance check and an earth check. All terminals should have the same resistance relative to any other terminal. If all the resistances are the same (within a few percent) and there is no earth leakage then there is unlikely to be a problem with the motor.

The circuit board is encapsulated in a resin which will make component testing very difficult. Be very careful, I believe that the electrolytic capacitors on the board can hold a charge for a long time.

    Good luck
