ParticipantHi,
Hope someone can help me. I’ve had a Samsung R21DPSM for about 22 months and it has has the usual problems (fan replaced, two new PCBs).
Ove the last three months the face plate between the fridge and freezer section has got progressively warrmer. I know it is supposed to get warm to prevent the seals icing up, but this morning it was as hot as a radiator – ie I couldnt leave my finger on it for more than a second.
The engineer has been out twice – the first time, the symptom wasnt there and he said the warm plate was normal. The second time, it was hot and he said it was normal and due to a low ambient temperature (its in a centrally heated kitchen diner). Its now so hot if you smeared cold butter on it, it melts off instantly.
Can anyone advise if this is normal? I’m pretty level headed and have a basic understanding of how machines work, but can’t for the life of me see how this is normal. If this happened on all fridges I would expect Samsung to be deluged with complaints because it just doesnt seem right. Unfortunately they won’t come out again without charging me and Samsung say they take the engineer’s report as gospel. If it is a fault, how on earth do I evidence it to get service under the remaining two months of my warranty?
Thanks for your time reading this.

Hi
Have you got this appliance free standing or have you put it into a unit or between/under units?
What temprature settings have you got it set at ?

Its freestanding and the required distance from the wall and the worktop it stands next to.
Temp settings are -19 and +4 which were the suggested settings in the manual if I remember correctly. It had the problem first thing this morning so both doors had been closed for at least 10 hours.

The refrigerant leaves the compressor at approx 55 centigrade depending on ambient temp and also the condenser underneath (black radiator)being dust free and the condenser fan working correctly,it loses heat via the cabinet and the condenser, either of the last two could cause the refigerant temp to go higher.
Because they have a fan underneath they draw in dust and especially animal hair which will block condensers over a period of 12 months or so.

Hi
The condensor is at the back not underneath the appliance.if the pcb has been changed then if this was blocked then the engineer would have noticed it as its next to the PCB.
If the condensor fan is running next to the compressor then the centre munion shouldnt get excessively hot. BUT they do get hot enough to melt butter or chocolate so you may well be over carefull.if the appliance is getting cold enough in the fridge and freezer then leave well alone.

No animals in the house, and I got rid of the dust underneath a couple of months ago and it didn’t seem to have any effect. Having said that. the temp inside the unit is absolutely fine. I was just concerned that it might be the start of something worse, seeing as the warranty is about to run out.
